"Beyond Economical Repair (BER)": Defined as a condition where a technology costs more to repair than it is worth. For example, say the market eBay value of a Dell Optiplex 270 desktop computer is roughly $50, what someone would pay for a 8 year old computer. Factoring replacement parts (e.g. hard drive, fan, etc) and technician cost per labor hour, if the parts and labor repair outweigh the value of the equipment, the system is Beyond Economical Repair (BER) and a candidate for surplus or replacement.
