Waterford Software (Grades K-2 by Pearson)
Overview: Waterford is software used in Grades K-2. Initially purchased for districtwide use in 1998-1999, the high cost of renewal eliminated districtwide use and support of Waterford. Schools are free to use their own funds to purchase upgrades and support for Waterford software. Waterford recommends their systems not to run on the network domain to avoid the challenges of individual student passwords; Waterford systems run all peer to peer in the district.
There are several versions of Waterford in use in the district:
- Waterford Version 2.X: Running on old white IBM computers. No software images for this version exist in the district. No support for these computers when they die, so we recommend upgrade to Version 3.X.
- Waterford Version 3.X: Can run on repurposed or refurbished Dell Optiplex 620 computers, other models (with proper video drivers, Windows XP Pro only). Software images for this version exist in the district. The district owns the perpetual districtwide license for this Version 3.X. District technology staff can setup these systems.
- Waterford Version 4.X and above: Better handing of student data, runs on Windows 7 Pro. Schools purchase Version 4.X software and training from Waterford. Technology support, software patches and updates are purchased from through Peason (Arey Jones provides the service, contracted through Pearson).
NOTE:
- No district provided training exists for Waterford.
- Waterford use is to be approved in the school site plan. Please see Linda Cordero in Categorical Programs for options other than Waterford.
- Waterford system setup can take up to 8 uninterrupted hours of tech support time for 4 computer systems.
- Web based alternatives to consider include: Compass Learning, ThinkCentral, xtramath, Starfall. Please consult the Technology TOSA.
